So we all know that moving day is a stressful time – it sure is! With so many details to work out and endless packing, cleaning and organizing to do; just getting to moving day can be a stress.
But lately, the normal stresses of life have sort-of been shoved to the wayside with the arrival of COVID-19, better known as corona virus. It’s this little germs that has wheedled its way into our world; threatening to invade…
And here you are, in the middle of this whole mess, and guess what?! You scheduled a move for next week, tho months ago! Now, that’s a real concern; how to navigate a move during a corona virus outbreak…
Well, that’s where we fit into the picture; Reputable Moving is always here to take the stress out of your move. Here are a number of helpful tips on moving during a corona virus outbreak:
Reschedule
We know that you have probably already signed on your new home and made all the necessary arrangements for your pre-scheduled moving date. It’s probably nearly impossible to reschedule your move. With that being said, however, even if it’s a big hasstle and will take you a while to work out… If it is at all possible to cancel your current move date and push it off until the corona virus concerns pass, that is the best way to go. It may take time, work and involve stress, but you’ll be taking the necessary precautions to keep yourself and your family safe.
Get in Touch with Your Movers:
Being that rescheduling your move date due to corona virus, may very well not be possible; either because someone else is waiting to move into your current home or because you’ve already signed your contract with your new home, or for a host of other reasons… The first thing you should do is give your moving company a call and make sure that they’re taking all necessary precautions and following all protocols related to the corona virus. Make sure that your moving company is following the Social Distancing protocols at the work place in order to ensure the continued health of their employees and their customers. Ask them if they’re keeping a tab on their staff and sending home any movers or employees who may be showing any possible symptoms of corona. Finally, find out what measures they’re taking to keep their trucks, supplies, office and staff sanitary at all times. Have they implemented additional daily cleaning procedures? Are their movers being careful to wear gloves at all times and sanitizing any areas or items that they touch? Ensuring that your moving company is keeping their finger on the pulse, taking preventative measures to reduce the risks associated with corona and making sure to keep everything they work with sanitary and germ free; is a most important step in ensuring a safe move despite the corona outbreak and will put you at ease to proceed with your moving plans.
Prepare Your Fronts:
Now that you’ve spoken to your moving company, it’s time to take your own precautionary measures. Firstly, be sure to have plenty of disinfectant materials on hand for moving day. It can be anything from liquid soap, to hand sanitizer, as well as sanitizing wipes etc. This will enable you to disinfect anything that might have come in contact with germs on the day of your move, for example, door handles, items touched by the movers, or things that may fall on the floor etc. It will also be a good way for you to disinfect your hands quickly, as you run in and out of the house. Secondly, if you have children, choose one indoor room or area where they can be supervised and occupied for the day. It should be an area where the movers will not need access. Prepare any necessary entertainment and food inside that room. Adults should eat their food in there as well; and make sure to disinfect their hand before entering the area. This will minimize the children’s contact with the germs from the outdoors. Finally, of course, make sure that the home you’re moving out of is as clean and germs free as possible, both before moving day begins and before you actually leave. Most importantly, make sure that either you or someone else gives your new home a good scrub down before you arrive on moving day. Oh, and don’t forget to do one last disinfecting wipe down once everything is inside and your movers left for the day. Especially on areas that are constantly touched, like door handles.
Taking these simple precautions will ensure a safe and stress-free move despite corona virus concerns.
