05 Dec 10 Things to Keep in Mind for Moving Day
Moving is a big deal and needs to be prepared for ahead of time. However, as much as you prepare ahead of time, moving day itself will always be busy since there are certain things that just have to be done on the day of your move.
Here are some crucial tips to keep in mind for moving day:
1. Have a Prepared List of Things To Do:
Moving day is an extremely busy day. There are so many last minute chores to get done that it can be very hard to keep track of. Having a prepared to do list will help keep you focused and remember what has to get done. This will ensure that nothing gets forgotten.
2. Start Out Early:
With the movers arriving early on moving day and so many last minute things to tend to, start your day early. Be ready for the movers before they arrive. All your boxes should be closed and prepared before any of the moving work begins. Oh, and don’t stay up all night, or even late into the night finishing up the last minute packing. Instead, go to sleep on time, get a good nights sleep and wake up early to finish up. That way you’ll be rested for moving day and still be finished by the time the movers arrive.
3. Charge Your Phone:
Make sure your phone is fully charged before moving day begins. This is not just a frivolous extra; it’s actually pretty important. You’ll need your phone to be working all day without conking out on you. With no land line to fall back on, since you’ll be on the way out of your old home and not yet in your new home, your cell phone is crucial for making arrangements, getting in touch with the movers and your kids’ care takers etc.
4. Arrange a Babysitter:
Moving day is a stressfull day with lots to do; last minute packing, cleaning up, dealing with movers etc. Having your little ones under foot will not only distract you from what you need to get done, but your children won’t get taken care of properly either, since you’ll be too busy to tend to them. Also, having kids around is dangerous, with all the furniture and boxes being moved, they can get hurt. Make arrangements for your kids to be watched by a family member, friend or babysitter. Make sure that they will take your children to their home and care for them there. This will ensure that you have the freedom you need to do what you have to and that they get well cared for and not neglected on moving day. Don’t worry; you’ll pick them up at the end of the day, when all the stress is over and give them some extra TLC and hugs before they go to bed.
5. Have Food and Drinks On Hand:
Make sure to pack a bag or box of food and drinks to keep you going all moving day long. Include drinks, as moving day is strenuous and keeping yourself hydrated is extremely important. Energy drinks can also be good to give yourself an extra boost throughout the day. Also include snacks and foods that are high in protein and calories but easy to eat on the go. Protein bars, cheese and nuts are all good foods to include.
6. Pack a Moving Day Essentials Bag:
Pack a bag of essentials for moving day and the day after. It should include anything you might need throughout the move as well as on the morning after you move. Make sure to include your phone, charger, wallet, and important items, documents or valuables that you don’t want on the truck. In addition, put in a change of clothing, pajamas and toiletries for the night and day after moving. Anything else you might want access to right away should be included, as unpacking can take a while.
7. Have Cleaning Products Available:
Make sure to have cleaning products, rags and disinfectant pads on hand during moving day. This will be important for any last minute cleaning in your old home. In addition, the disinfectant pads will be good to get germs off your hands on the go before eating.
8. Have Cash for Tips:
Make sure to have cash on you to tip the movers. Moving all your boxes and furniture is hard work; tipping the workers is important. But you won’t have time to get cash on moving day, so make sure to take care of it before hand.
9. Take Pictures to Record Utilities and Electronics:
Take pictures of how your electrical appliances are connected. This will help you transition once you get to your new home. Instead of trying to figure out how to hook them up, you’ll just look at your pictures, set things up and be all in order in no time at all. Also, take pictures of your water and gas meters before leaving your home. This way, when you get your final bill, you’ll know if it’s right.
10. Check Everything Over One Last Time:
With so many things to pack up, it’s easy to leave something behind, and once you leave, it will be hard to get things back. So take a thorough check of everything before you leave. Check every cabinet and closet as well.
These are essential moving day tips. Following them will enable you to cut as much stress out of moving day as possible.
